The short version
VG Cruising Ducks is a small, community hobby project. We only collect what you choose to type into our forms, we show approved submissions publicly, and we never sell your information.
What you submit
When you log a duck find you may give us: the duck code, the name you want shown, the cruise line and ship name, where and when you found the duck, your story, what you did with the duck, and an optional photo. All of these fields are optional except the duck code and the name you want displayed.
Photos
Photos you upload are stored in our image storage and, once approved, are shown publicly next to your story. Please only upload photos you have the right to share, and avoid photos that identify other people without their permission — especially children.
Approximate location on the journey map
When you log a find or a hide you may optionally type a place name — a cruise port, city, or island. If you do, we look that place up and store an approximate map point (a latitude and longitude rounded to roughly a kilometre) alongside your submission. Once your submission is approved, that point is shown publicly as a numbered marker on the duck's journey map.
This is entirely optional — submissions work fine without it, and if the lookup fails we simply save your submission without a map point. We do not ask for, collect, or store your device's precise GPS location, and the site never reads your location automatically. Please choose a general place such as a port or city rather than anything that pinpoints where you live or stay.
Map provider
Place lookups and the journey map are powered by Google Maps Platform. When a journey map loads, your browser contacts Google to fetch map tiles, which is subject to Google's own privacy policy.
Please don't send sensitive information
Do not submit anything sensitive: home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, cabin numbers, booking or loyalty numbers, payment details, government ID details, health information, or anything else you would not want published. Anything you type into a public story field may end up on a public page. Use a first name or a nickname if you prefer.
Moderation
Every submission is reviewed by an administrator before it is published. Submissions that are not approved stay private and are visible only to the site administrator. We may edit, decline, or delete any submission at any time.
Where data lives
Submissions and photos are stored using Supabase, our hosted database and file storage provider. Access to unpublished submissions is restricted to authenticated site administrators. No system is perfectly secure, so please treat anything you submit as potentially public.
Public display of approved submissions
Once approved, your submission — including the display name, location, date, story, action taken, and photo — appears on the duck's journey page and may appear on our Recent Duck Adventures page. These pages are public and may be indexed by search engines or shared on social media.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not run advertising networks on this site.
Removing your submission
Want something taken down or corrected? Message us on Instagram at @vgcruisingducks with the duck code and roughly when you submitted it, and we will remove it. See our contact page for other ways to reach us.
Children
This site is meant for a general audience. If a child wants to share a find, a parent or guardian should submit it for them and should use a first name only.
Changes
This site is growing, so this policy may change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
